Hi All,
History has shown time and again that individuals can bring about large scale positive change in the world by seemingly insignificant acts. Teaching less privileged children is one such powerful act which can go a long way in removing illiteracy and solving many other problems in India.
Many of us want to utilize our spare time but propably don't have the motivation or enough time to go to a slum to teach. One solution could be to teach a child at your home or at any convenient place close to your house/office, where a child can come easily. You can try to fill the gaps in education provided by formal schools (especially those where teachers are not well trained or hardly teach). Quite often children of rickshawwalas, peons, autowalas, milkmans, maids etc. are unable to go to school due to financial reasons. You can atleast take the initiative to provide functional literacy (reading and writing skills that are adequate to cope with the demands of everyday life) to such children. You can also teach adults, who haven't managed to get education while fighting for roti, kapda and makan. EACH ONE HELP TO TEACH ONE (EOH2TO) concept is about owning up our social responsibility to share our learnings with the less privileged section of our society. It's your choice how you want to make a positive difference.
